10 Tips on Adding Video to Your Web Site

1. Write a short script, on paper, as a reminder of what you'll say, share, and feature.
The script will lessen the number of times you start and stop the video due to recording errors.

2. Record in a quiet area.
Places where horns beep and children play are not video friendly. Also, be sure to turn the telephone ring down or off (remember to turn it back up when done).

3. Go for great, not perfect.
The video is to connect with prospects and customers, so be upbeat and bubbly, remembering that this is for your audience, not Hollywood.

4. Let each video's length average between three and six minutes.
It's said that the shorter the length, the better, and that's true for time-strained viewers. State your message, tell them what to do, and end the recording.

5. Add humor.
People like to watch videos that are comfortable, fun, and relaxing in its presentation. Humor allows you to create an enjoyable experience and sell, too, through story telling or introducing your business through an off-beat approach.

6. Invest in a floor model tripod.
This low-cost equipment is your video partner, stabilizing the camera or camcorder while recording your message.

7. Save your video recordings on an external back-up system.
If your computer system crashes, there's no way to re-capture this revenue-generating property.

8. Create a customer testimonial contest.
Making your own videos is a great beginning, but customer comments about how a gift basket put a smile on the recipient's face is a priceless message all will watch. Offer prizes that you believe customers will appreciate.

9. Watch competitive videos for ideas.
It's important to see what competitors create for their audience. There's no need to copy someone else's method or re-invent the wheel when you get started; just view how others engage their audience and let their techniques motivate you to do better.

10. Replace videos as necessary.
After three to five years, it's time to update your recording with a new message. At that point you'll be comfortable in front of the camera, so create an appealing welcome dialogue for the pages where customers visit most.
