Who We Are

Courtesy of The L.A. Mart

Which road would you choose: 1) typing 120 words per minute at a new dead-end job each year, or 2) traveling the world as a celebrated author and industry expert helping individuals improve their lives?

In 1989, Shirley Frazier pondered this decision during a lunch break while seated in her car listening to the radio. The first choice guaranteed receiving a paycheck every two weeks, while the second choice demanded long hours, a chaotic travel schedule, and the remote chance to profit if and when the business made money.

Shirley's not one to take the easy road. In 1990, she launched Sweet Survival®, known on the web as GiftBasketBusiness.com, the place where beginning and seasoned retailers flock for books, tapes, directories, ideas, and inspiration to succeed with gift baskets.

The business began as a New Jersey-based gift basket company, successfully selling to large and small firms. But that wasn't enough. Shirley yearned for television exposure. She called The Food Network, and a producer agreed to see her portfolio. With no time to waste, Shirley and her mom traveled 22 miles to the New York City network. Why was mom in tow? Who else would baby-sit an illegally-parked car on Sixth Avenue wedged between two delivery trucks while her daughter delivered the package? Within three months, Shirley was live on The Food Network introducing Sweet Survival® to 22 million viewers.

The experience prepared Shirley to speak at business events, conferences, and trade shows worldwide. Her articles have been published in trade and business magazines, and she's also appeared on CNBC, The Discovery Channel, New York's Fox 5 and New Jersey Network.

In her spare time, Shirley wrote the gift basket industry's No. 1 and 2 books, respectively: How to Start a Home-Based Gift Basket Business, now in its third edition, and The Gift Basket Design Book.

Sleep is relegated to roughly four hours each night. That's the time Shirley reserves to be a dotting wife and mother.

There's been one setback since 1989. Shirley's typing speed has slowed to 110 words per minute.
